Club Meeting: Thursday 6th May

Launceston R/C will have a club meeting next Thursday, May 6th.  Its open to anyone interested in talking about what we’re doing, when/where/how we are racing and what the future holds for us.

Particular topics for discussion and/or decision:

  1. Do we continue (we’ve just reached the end of our three month trial period)? (easy decision I think!)
  2. Do we establish an independent club, or operate our racing as a “division” of North West R/C Car Club?
  3. Electing/selecting office bearers and committee members
  4. Boring stuff like insurance, incorporation etc
  5. Track & facility development
  6. Planning for a “Launceston Cup” weekend race meeting (a one-off special event)

There will be opportunity to elect/select some people to help shape the club, and run it.  If you are interested, this isn’t a time to sit back and be shy – nominate yourself. Particularly if you have some experience it will be very helpful to us.

If we establish a formal club, I think we’ll need a Pres, a Secretary, Treasurer, Track/Facility Coordinator plus couple of extra committee members. Also could add a marketing/promotions/sponsorship person if we wanted, or even a dedicated Race Director if enough people want to be involved.

If we decide to operate as a division of NWRCCC we’ll need a smaller group to coordinate our racing and liaise with NWRCCC – but still will be important to have some people (co-ordinator, subcommittee members, promotion/marketing/sponsorship and track/venue coordinator).

We need (I think) a small group to take responsibility for the track and facility. This group would be thinking about how to improve the facility, better track markers, layout changes from time to time, liaising with Rutherglen, developing a Driver’s Stand (high priority I think) etc.

If you can make it, please come along.  If you have some skills and experience you can offer the club, please, please do so.  If you’re up for a late night, after we’re finished I can offer a screening of “Carpet Racers: The Movie” which is a professionally made documentary about indoor (carpet) R/C racing in the US ;).

One other comment….is that we should not assume that the people who’ve put the energy into getting the club off the ground are necessarily the only people who could be nominated. If you’re so pumped about Launceston R/C, where we might go with it, and putting time and energy into making that happen, you might just be our first President!
